The full African crossing is now limited to the West African route for the foreseeable future. Civil war and political unrest effectively block the traditional Sahara crossing and the Nile route.
The good news is that most of the countries from Kenya South continue to be stable and safe for independent drivers. Angola in the west of the continent is becoming more accessible and offers a huge area for self-drivers to explore.
